Shot some quick photos of this (unicorn) rig in the backyard this morning. Freshly picked from the original owner in Colorado.
He bought this bike new in California in 1995. He said it came as a kit from the factory with the carbon Judy FSX fork exactly as it is photographed. After doing a bit of research, it seems this was only a ’95 thing and mostly only for team riders before the Boxxer came out in ’96. The HED downhill/Ringle wheelset was added sometime later in 95 or 96 he said.
The fork has 20mm extra and is equipped with Mountain Speed Springs. The rear has a custom linkage allowing for 5" travel over the stock 3.5".
He lived in a small mountain community nearly at treeline. He would often ride up to the ridge (12,500 ft elevation) and over to another town, camp, and back in the morning.
Enjoy the photos, thanks for always indulging, and keep on bringing the history/knowledge to this group.
